Gov of South Carolina Impromptu Appalachian Trail Trip

By Rocky Thompson on June 24th, 2009

The Governor of South Carolina is due back in office today after walking out of work and heading straight for the Appalachian Trail. Apparently he turned off his cell phone, didn’t tell any of the state legislature he was leaving town, then ditched his security detail and walked out of town. The first lady of SC said he wanted to get away from his kids for a few days while working on some writing and that she wasn’t concerned about his whereabouts. It’d be nice if he came back from the trail with plans to add a couple billion dollars to the state’s park administration budget. This country would be in better shape if more politicians went on impromptu hikes.

Update: Just kidding! He was having an affair.

Apparently, he went to Argentina, not the Appalachian trail. Weird.

Didn’t his trip coincide with “naked trail day”? Coincidence?

Disappeared to go hiking on naked hiking day? Hmm…

It’s getting better. He was having an affair and “spent the last 5 days crying in Argentina”. Don’t cry for me, Argentina? Pendejo!

What a crappy cover story to say he left spur of the moment for a multiday backpacking trip on the same weekend as Naked Hiking Day, oh and that other thing Father’s Day when he has 4 kids. It was kind of lame to find out it was just for South American non-wife sex. I think he would have made a more interestinng person with the impromtu hiking excursions.
