Cell Phones Rescue in Backwater Towns

By Rocky Thompson on June 1st, 2009

A young man in the swamplands of New Hampshire called the police after he wandered off the trail and got lost. What’s interesting about the story is that the small town Alton, New Hampshire was able to find him based on his cell phone coordinates without doing much more than contacting his phone company. This is great news for people like me who like to walk through heavily wooded and marshy land without a compass or GPS device in backwoods towns.

I think that is really cool. In fact I was just commenting on this fact to my husband the other day. That is one plus to all of my children having cell phones.

The problem here is that people come to rely on their cellular phones to work in locations where there may be no coverage. A cellular phone is no replacement for a good set of survival tools (10 essentials for some) and a first aid kit - along with the knowledge to put everything to use.
