Vail Resorts Will Require All Employees to Wear Helmets Next Year
By Rocky Thompson on April 14th, 2009
Actually, Vail will only require employees to wear the helmets if they’re skiing or snowboarding. I was thinking it would be cool if they carelessly wrote the new rule and everyone who worked in their offices had to wear helmets, too. Children under 12 will also be required to buy over-priced helmets from Vail retailers if the parents want to drop them at ski school and head to the wine bar. Vail says the change is coming because “the safety of our employees and guests is a top priority.” I guess I buy that-or at least they care a lot more about their employees’ safety than their financial well being since Vail doesn’t offer employees a 401k.

What about the snowbladers?
I believe that helmets are a personal choice and yes I wear one. This just makes one more reason to not visit Vail resorts next year…
Huh? I don’t get it Todd, you only like to visit mountains where the employees are unsafe? How does them having to wear helmets affect you in any way? (your kid is probably already wearing a helmet if they’re signed up for ski school, btw. and what kind of parent is like, “NO, I want my child’s head unprotected!!”) practically everyone wears a helmet anyway, this isn’t a big deal.
Anyhoooo…. hilarious post.
I wouldn’t put it past somebody to lie to attempt to give their opinion more weight.
“Yes, I drink coffee every day. But I think it’s a horrible thing, and I would not frequent any establishment that serves it.”
And don’t bother with the civil libertarian crap. It doesn’t apply when you’re an employee. You’re trading your time/personal preference for their pay. You have the liberty of choosing to not make that trade. Ever hear of a corporate dress code?
One more among the thousand reasons not to ski at - or work for - Vail.
It’s not skiing anyway; it’s just a golfing resort with snow, run by lawyers and real estate catamites.
Nobody ever wore helmets skiing until that idiot Sonny Bono piled into a tree.
Then, poof. Instant conformity. Weird. The carving sports continue their downward spiral toward inanity.
There is one golf course in Vail - owned by the town, not the resort. Why would an employee wearing a helmet affect your choice of ski resorts? That is what’s inane.
