Lazy Dog Torture with WalkyDog

By Rocky Thompson on March 23rd, 2009

People giving you dirty looks for tying your dog to your SUV’s bumper and driving slowly around the park? Man, all these hippies are so worried about SUVs and global warming these days. Time to go green with the WalkyDog. It’s a leash that attaches to your bike seat so you can drag your dog through crowded bike lane until it’s too exhausted to stand without help. The WalkyDog costs about $40.

I would like to comment on this very short and mis-informed blog. First, the product you are speaking of is the WalkyDog, however the link you posted is to the website for a product called the K-9 Jogger which is an imitation of the Walky Dog and as such, WalkyDog is pursuing legal action against the makers of the K-9 Jogger for infringement of copyright.

Second, I would like to provide some clearly needed information on the Walky Dog. Every one that is sold comes with a clear set of instructions for proper use. This product is not intended for speed riding. It is intended for slow steady riding…not unlike a pace at which many people jog with their dogs. It is a product that can be used quite enjoyably for both dog and rider if used by someone who cares about and is knowledgeable about their dogs health and physical abilities. No one who is a responsible pet owner would “drag their dog through a crowded bike lane” with it.

    Benefits of the WalkyDog

    • Allows greater safety of the dog-bike-rider trio by allowing the rider to keep both hands on the handlebars
    • Allows the rider to safely indicate changes in direction/turns
    • Allows both dog and rider to train together, keeping you both fit
    • Can be easily and quickly disconnected when you are biking without your dog
    • Is an instant hand leash to walk your dog when disconnected from the bike
    • Protects your dog by keeping him from moving vehicles or crossing in front of or behind your bike
    • In case of an accident, it keeps your dog from detaching from the bike and wandering into traffic or running off
    • Initial installation takes less than 5 minutes and requires no additional tools
    • Universal design allows installation on any type of bicycle
    • Very easy to use. No formal training required.
    • Can be used on all types of terrain, on or off-road
    • Can be used by almost any type of dog – a Low Rider accessory can be purchased for shorter dogs
    • Can be used by almost anyone, however we recommend that users be at least 14 years of age and all users should weigh approximately 40 lbs more than the dog they are riding with

For optimal enjoyment for you and your dog

    • Always make sure that your dog is healthy and capable of the exercise
    • Keep your dog well-hydrated while biking
    • Inspect your dogs pads frequently to be sure they are in good shape
    • On initial use, familiarize your dog with the WalkyDog by walking him with it before attempting to use it with your bicycle
    • We do not recommend using with very young puppies (less than 6-8 months)
    • If you have any questions regarding the use or safety of this product, please give us a call or contact your local veterinarian or animal trainer
