Twitter Might have a Purpose After all
By Rocky Thompson on March 5th, 2009

A snowboarder lost in the Alps was near enough a resort that he was able to call for help on his phone and guided rescuers to him via his iPhone GPS. Another woman was rescued with him, and his friends stayed in touch over Twitter during the hectic attempt to find him. Sadly another friend wasn’t so lucky, and officials recovered his body at the base of a 60ft cliff in a stream. The group was a trio of internet marketers who went off-piste in bad weather, became separated, and had to call for help. So Twitter’s not as useless a time suck as it might seem, or at least in one case.
