Platypus Preserve Backcountry Wine Saver

My friend was standing in line at the liquor store with two big bottles of $5 Ernest Gallo wine when a guy behind him with two jugs of Carlo Rossi and one box of Franzi asked him if the Gallo was any good. This is the kind of customer Platypus is going after with their wine-saver Preserve bag. The idea is that you squeeze some Franzi out of the box and into the Platypus to take it on your backpacking trip, or you use it to store the leftovers from a bottle of wine to preserve it’s freshness. I’m going to predict this won’t be a huge winner among the outdoor crowd since we don’t struggle with finishing bottles of wine.

Um, not to get picky, but Franzia is merely housed in a box. The wine itself is contained in a plastic bladder which is only differentiated from the platypus by the pour spout. The Franzia bladder is more then sturdy enough (sledding with a box revealed its true strength) to handle a backcountry trip. I m just saying.

I think the idea is that you don t carry bottles around but that my first thought.

I think the idea is that you don t carry bottles around, not to pour Franzia from one bag to the next.
