The US Track and Field governing body recently amended a rule about headphones during sanctioned marathons that no one was following anyway. This year they tried to ban all headphones as a safety issue, but now they’ll let race directors make the call for each race instead of a blanket ban. Still banned are communication devices that would allow your coach to yell “STEP! STEP! STEP! STEP!” into your skull during the entire race.
