Cycling in National Parks Potential Rule Change

The IMBA is leading the charge to streamline the process by which trails are opened to mountain bikes in national parks. Currently, it takes several years of paperwork and layers of approval up and down the Department of the Interior, which the IMBA says acts as a disincentive for park managers to open cycling trails. This new regulation change proposal would put the power to designate trails as mountain-bike acceptable in the hands or individual parks managers in an “I’m going to listen to the generals on the ground!” kind of way. Other non-motorized vehicle (horses, feet) trails are opened and closed at the park manager’s discretion, so this rule update would bring bikes in line. The government will listen to your comments on the topic here.
