JanSport is rolling out some old-school backpacks, but as far as I can tell they’re only available from Urban Outfitters. To answer your question, the Stars and Stripes backpack is, in fact, made in China. The Burhorn will set you back $170, and the rest of the JanSport vintage packs costs about $60 each.

Of course, JanSport is a pretty cool company. I went to a party they hosted once, and they had an open bar for several hours. My roommate spilled scotch in his shoes because he was trying to discreetly fill up his flask to take home some booze. I tried to order a bottle of Crystal champagne, and the bartender had to ask the head honcho at JanSport. I’ll never forget when the bartender spoke to him and then pointed across the room at me, and the JanSport exec shook his head saying no. Can’t really blame him; I don’t think I was even supposed to be there.
