Timbuk2 Checkpoint Messenger Bag with Wheels?

Timbuk2 cashes in its last shred of cycling credibility with a line of luggage featuring their patented 3-panel colors, which of course used to only be available via custom orders from bike messengers. The Checkpoint is a dainty wheeled luggage that comes in a nice pink/brown that looks a little too cute to get checked by customs. I guess you could tow it behind your fixie on its Rollerblade wheels to deliver some Peace Coffee across town. The Checkpoint will be available this fall and costs an outrageous $275.

When did any of you bike-tards care so much about Timbuk2? I saw this stuff at OR, and it was SWEET! For $275 I don’t hear anyone bitching about Eagle Creek or Osprey.

Hey at least hey haven’t started throwing seatbelt buckles on their bags yet. I’ve had a classic Deedog since ‘99 (bought online, not in a store) and it’s still holding on strong. I openly admit to only using it on my bike about 10 times in span of its life, but anything product that keeps doing its job for nearly 10 years without breaking down is a good thing. It doesn’t pain me in the least if core bikeys disdain Timbuk2, but no one better mess with skin tight denim!
Risking a double post, I do use my bag daily on my feets (those things that push the pedals). That being said, the durability I’m touting for this company is yet to be tested by the TSA which can put a Grade A ass whompin on luggage.
Guess after you buy a shit load of trucker hats, PBR and pants that only come half way up your ass crack, there’s no money left to travel. So why would you need a durable piece of luggage? Did we really sell out by adding travel bags to our product line? We’ve been making more than messenger bags for over 10 years. This is simply an evolution of what we do: make durable bags for people on the go. The Checkpoint is no exception; there’s nothing dainty about it. It’s made out of tough ballistic nylon that’ll last longer than the bike messenger “trendâ€.
When we make new products we don’t make things just for the hell of it, we go to our customers and get their feedback first. The people spoke, and we listened. What we came up with has been received so well that even though it’s a Spring 2009 product, we’re doing a limited early release in November.
And for the record, it doesn’t come in Pink, that’s Orange; and those aren’t rollerblade wheels, they’re skateboard wheels!
No comment on the fact that $275 is ridiculous for a carry-on bag? I love the durability of the messenger bags, but seriously, $275? I’ll pick it up off SAC for $100, thanks.
