Republican Oregon State Senator Shot While Tuning Bike

By Rocky Thompson on August 6th, 2008

gunshot-wound

I know Bush rides a mountain bike, but I’m still surprised whenever I find out a republican likes to bike to work. I need to get over this bias, because I’m also not even a little surprised whenever a republican is the victim of an accidental gunshot. This 37-year-old state senator Jason Atkinson was shot in leg by a .38-caliber derringer that was stored in a bag on the bike. The seat pack apparently fell off and the gun went off when it hit the deck shooting Atkinson in the knee.

I have more than a few problems with this story, but the main ones follow:

1. What good is a gun stored in a bag under your seat going to do? It would be impossible to quickly grab it in the extremely unlikely event that you actually needed it.

2. If the gun goes off when it gets dropped, what’s to stop it from blasting your junk off when you hit big pothole in the road?

3. Weren’t derringers used in the Old West, and what’s this Old West Revivalist Dandy doing on a bike that’s not a steampunk recumbent?

Thanks Steve

Too funny. If you can’t leave home without your gun, you’re either a cop or a republican’t. One side makes sense and the other is still confused about air pressure.

Uh yeah, I’m trying to figure out how my dumb republican ass has made it all these years without shooting myself out of frustration from riding my bike to work and driving my Subaru on under-inflated tires. Excuse me, I’ve gotta go shoot some caribou so I can put up another oil rig….Stay enlightened.(biased)
