Helly Hansen  is digging deep into their marketing pitch to come up with a new way to sell synthetic moisture-wicking T-shirts. The Helly Hansen X-Pulsion line comes out this summer with plans to render your current moisture-wicking clothes obsolete through a series of X-shaped fibers. Their Coolgrid® construction is meant to pull moisture from the skin even while increasing airflow. Look for it on the racks with all the other polyester blend shirts in the world.

Sorry, Rock, but all of Helly’s retarded issues (there are many) aside, these shirts really are the shit. There’s one thing Helly has always done well, and it’s baselayer. I don’t know about this X-Pulsion crap, but if my suspicions are correct it’s just renamed HH Cool/LIFA Versa, and it’s better in hot weather than anything else. The polypro inside stays dry while the polyester face spreads sweat out to dry, and the coolgrid system works great under a camelbak. Don’t expect miracles if you live in 90 degree, 90% humidity places (all you can do is sweat and swear) but pretty much anywhere else, this stuff is golden. Now. if Helly could only get their act together in the other areas…
