Wearing Flip-Flops Will Kill You
By Rocky Thompson on June 15th, 2008A recent study points to some research that seems to show that people who wear flip-flops are more likely to get skin cancer on their feet. And since only half of patients with melanomas on their feet survive compared with a 4-out-of-5 survival rate for other melanomas, they conclude that your flip-flops will kill you unless you’re bright enough to use sunscreen. I would argue that a greater death risk should also be associated with flip-flops if you’re the kind of guy always running away from people. You’re like the wounded gazelle of the pack since you can’t run as fast, so it’s only a matter of time until your friends trip you so they can make the getaway.

Huh? It always amazes me the new and creative ways our establishment comes up with to see to it that we are shod and “properly” attired (ie,covered.)
I choose footwear according to the outdoor activity I’m engaged in. Being a barefooter by nature (that’s got to be even worse, huh!) I have fallen hard for hiking sandals like Chacos, and save the covering “shoes” for fall and winter. Since the cold season in Maine is long, I always opt for the lighter, more bare solution any time I can. I don’t understand where psycho-babble and lame attempts at shaming contribute to any discussion. I’ll do what I want anyway.
It amazes ME how people come up with ways to create predictions of cancer! It’s so stupid! YOU CAN GET CANCER FROM ANNNYYYTTHHIINNGG!
Yes, theres a million things that can give you cancer, but at least this is a warning to remember to put sunscreen on your feet! I would never have really thought of that, I dont think theyre saying not to wear them.
I think Scott needs to learn how to read. There was no shaming in that message, it was all about skin cancer, … and tripping.
