Laird Hamilton Clothing Line

When you own a house on the tip of Oahu, you need to come up with some creative ways to cover your taxes. Running a company that loses a ton of cash is a wonderful write-off. To that end, Laird Hamilton is launching a clothing line called Wonderwall this spring. It’s inspired by, “his sense of style, attitude and overall approach to life.” In other words, we can expect a lot of sweet muscle tees and Magnum PI Hawaiian prints.

    Not re-branding Nau?

Like a lot of surfers, myself included, Laird’s a decent enough guy out of the water and predictably an asshole in the water. But with tow-in surfing and now most recently stand-up paddle boarding one man has really screwed up the sport. The sad part is, mass culture gobbles up whatever turds Laird pinches out and laps it up like ice cream.
I predict the invention of a surfboard with an electric motor and Laird will be there riding it. Not bad for a high school drop out.

hey WTF, you be nice! Blaming Laird for all the whirling dervishes in the water is a stretch. All surfers are assholes in the water, 98% get 4 second rides in slop, at least this guy lays his life on the line and must prep for months. longboards were first -shortboards screwed the sport! The world doesn’t need another clothing line but let the guy do the sell out routine.

I’m not talking about longboard vs shortboard BS.
Here’s what I’m I’m saying: he already sold out the sport as soon as he popularized PWC towing surfers into the line up. And now you have guys on boards bigger than they need just so they can stand on a board with a paddle in their hands. That’s de-evolution, not progress.
Maybe he can sell you his farts as aftershave. Most surfers are so effing gullible.

New clothes from Laird Hamilton? $8.98? Does anyone know more about this stuff?
Saw Steve & Barry’s is doing a new Laird Hamilton line—http://www.surfersvillage.com/surfing/31853/news.htm, + here’s the website for Laird http://www.thisiswonderwall.com

Don’t forget Mr. WhiskeyTangoFoxtrot 98% of those in the right seat are just assholes trying to be like the 98% in the left seat.

    Mr. W-T-F.
The short vs long vs PWC vs SUP is all about how you handle it. I do 3 of the 4 and will leave the PWC to true hell men. But Laird’s “branding” is a positive one for the lifestyle and I’m sure there’s plenty that will clamor for his products in and attempt to be like Laird (the antithesis of Matt Archibold) . Just as every A-hole started to wear a Yellow Jersey and get a Trek Madone when Lance did his thing…it was still all good and part of the fantasy we are all guilty of partaking in.
As for SUP….de-evolution??? Have you done it in 4-7 ft beachbreak?? I’d reserve judgment…IMHO it’s a logical step and a merge of other disciplines, Sea Kayak, Longboard, Sail Board etc…….you can use it in almost any waterway.
But your point is taken by the gullibility factor and that fact that at $8.98 per item, I can’t imagine the level of quality in a boardshort when compared to $60 QS/Billabong etc…
We may never get to know the difference as the purveyor of his Wonderwall brand, Steve and Barry’s just declared bankruptcy. Will dilution of Laird’s name occur?.. no doubt, I’m blown away he didn’t at least step into some mid-brand space.
    Cheers,
See you in the mine-up with the appropriate board per conditions.

to whiskey tango faggot trot! you idiot! the only way to surf 30 to 80 ft waves is to get towed in. when was the last time you paddled into something that big? .you f#&#$ing idiot! without pwc’s theres no big wave surfing on jaws. so quit being a lil B$^%$ch about someone doing something your not!

  9. lalaboards

To slikrik the dick Laird is an ass in & out of the water.I know because he moved in to my town.I had to move out of my 800 K place because he in now giving SUP classes @ our once pristine surf break. He has sold out his own kind & I am patiently waiting for him to dig a rail on a 100 footer.

  10. SMURF

Last Summer, Laird verbally and threatened my friend in the water at Malibu at 12:00 midnight. 20 people were in the water and it was very small. my friend was out with 3 other AA folks, for a sober night. My friend missed a wave and said “Shit” pretty loud. Laird paddeled up to him on a paddle board and stuck his paddle in my friends face and neck, telling him Quote: Don’t yell any cuss words out here, like fuck or shit, GOT IT. After ten minutes of this harrasment my friend told him: Hey, Laird, I used to respect you, why are you messing with me”? Laird screams out: “We’re the Wave Riders of the Ocean”. Wow, I guess thats why he theatened my friend with his life, by stating: “I can snap your neck in a second”. Wow, Laird, didn’t you just right a book about “Healthy Living”. Your a Hipocritt to the max, a Purf Phoney. I wouldn’t buy your book or clothes for anything. I too used to respect you as one of the best surfers in the world. I think of you as horse crap. My friend is a pretty nice guy and didn’t deserve 15 minutes of bull crap harrasment. this is not a made up story, only one that reflects the true attitude of a loser, spoiled brat.

Smurf, thats a hell of a story; reminds of me of something that Ken Bradshaw would do. I used to live on Maui back in the day and ran into laird every now and then. He seemed like a nice guy. It always a trade off. he wants to get paid and promoted towing in at jaws to pole vault himself into the world spotlight. Then complains that too many people are out at Jaws towing in and that its a crowded zoo. You can’t sell surfing to the world and then complain when a few of them show up at your spot to surf. That’s classic hypocricy.

Reminds me of when I was growing up in Pittsburg and was at a city park with my dad and barry bonds ran me off the field…told me to FO and die…this was HIS practice field…like to hit balls over the fence while others watched in awe…dood.
