Nano wires woven into your hiking pants could one day produce enough electricity to run handheld video game systems during long backcountry hikes. The tiny nanogenerators are 1,000 times smaller than a human hair and can produce electricity from movement or exposure to wind. I also imagine that it would give you one hell of a static shock after dragging your feet around the carpeting clad in furry slippers. The technology could eventually be used to run a GPS or satellite phone, but it’s still years away so don’t throw out your cell phone charger quite yet.
