Another Use for The Internet: MapMyRun.com

Imagine the following scenario: You get bored with your running route to work, so you decide to try something new. Instead of turning right on Avenue Street, you turn left on Lois Lane, because you’re pretty sure it joins up with Boulevard Way eventually. After jogging along for a mile, you wind up in a cow pasture with a surly rancher pointing a shotgun at your face. You hop on MapMyRun.com and plan out a new route.

logo_mapmyrun.gifYes, you cynical jerks, you could just use Google maps. But this site lets you mark kick-ass routes for your fellow runners to see. The search tab lets you browse through routes other people have marked, including those best for biking, skating, kayaking, pogo sticking, and moustache riding. You can view the maps in standard, satellite, topo, or standard/satellite hybrid versions.

Is this better than MotionBased? Has a fairly clunky UI with limited analysis and while I realize it’s focus is running, other activities seem very marginalized. I think I’ll stick to MotionBased.

I had a hard time hearing that reply over the background staccato of TI-85 calculator buttons and DriftingSon’s red-lining brain. Nerd.

    What’s a TI-85? Must be a runner thing…
