The New Ski Journal is Out
By Rocky Thompson on November 13th, 2007The latest edition of The Ski Journal arrived with my bills the other day and it’s freaking awesome (the magazine, not the bills).  If you haven’t bought one of the $13 magazines they’re worth checking out. The Ski Journal’s relatively ad-free setup costs a lot more than most advertorial rags, but the photography is amazing and the stories generally very good. It takes awhile to read and the stories are well reported, so it’s basically the opposite of this blog—but then again you can’t read The Ski Journal while pretending to work at your desk.

Seems like they’re taking a cue from Surfer’s Journal. 13 bucks, the layout, the almost adlessness, the focus on content. More mags need to go that route. Though the 13 bucks makes it a hard sell.
In March 08 the latest windsurf and standup paddling Journal will be out. Same theory, beaucoup content, photos from around the globe, few ads. The startup link is http://www.windsurfjournal.us/weekly-gust/weekly_gust_110707.html
Technically they were taking a cue from Frequency: The Snowboarder’s Journal…..which probably took it’s cue from the Surfer’s Journal. Just sayin’
Fair enough.
Man, Surfer’s Journal is astounding. That’s all I’m sayin’!
Actually Frequency and The Ski Journal are the same publishing company (Funny Feeling, LLC) so they are just expanding their market i guess…
I’ve got a subscription and it’s an awesome magazine… the kind that makes you want to turn the pages very carefully.
I’m just sayin’
its a stretch but if you have viewed enough rad mags and want to lower the number of trees getting cut down, why not settle for 4 x a year of great photos and content vs a spitload of ads in the monthlies? Then again throwing it all on the web might save even more trees and move faster….
