The $1400 Burton Trench Coat

Burton teamed up with designer Paul Smith to make this 3-layer Limited-edition Mark XIII Trench Coat. I’m still trying to find the Mark I through Mark XII trench coats, but GetOutdoors is off on another of their Gestapo-wear rants about the storm trooper SS looking design. It’s these kinds of rants we need to avoid if those tiny mustaches under your nose will ever be popular again.

From the Paul Smith site:
“I have taken tailored clothing and given it all the special features expected from me and Burton; unique hidden lining details, individual buttons, and Burton’s cutting edge technology; fully taped heat-welded seams and high performance waterproofing.”

I’d rather buy an almost-new Buick than a trench coat for $1400, but that’s just me.

I really like most of the Paul Smith collaborations and I like almost all of his designs for his own label, but something about technical wear paired with high(er) fashion bugs me a bit. I don’t want my sport jacket to have taped seams; I want my snowboard jacket that way and I want my sport coat triple stitched by hand. Either way, I wish I could afford to buy a Paul Smith suit and I wish I could afford a Burton shell.

Hmm, on the one hand the trenchcoat would probably be more wind and water proof than the $1400 Buick, and on the other hand the $1400 Buick would allow you to tote more junk around than the trenchcoat. But both would make you a prime suspect on your local neighborhood watch’s “Possible Sex Offender” list.
