Jacuzzi on Top of Mont Blanc Total Sausage Fest
By Rocky Thompson on October 9th, 2007A team of climbers hauled a collapsible hot tub and enough fuel to power it to the top of Mont Blanc earlier this month. They had to design a hot tub that would work in a depleted oxygen atmosphere under freezing conditions, and it had to be compact and easy to carry. The weather cooperated and they posted several pictures—my favorite are of the other people summiting in the background. Â
We realize that our Event, could disturb certain people, especially those who climbed Mont-Blanc that day and were hoping to be alone on a virgin summit. We apologise sincerely. Also we hope they will understand that we are also often disturbed by the helicopter depositions and site seeing heli-trips for purely touristic activities. Regarding the pollution level, note that a jaccuzzi for 20 people heated from snow, is equivalent in fuel consumption to less than 10 minutes helicopter flight with 4 people.

Hilarious. I try to imagine the giant ice rink that was left when they emptied the hot tub….and then I imagine hapless climbers slipping off the summit when they step on it unaware.
Maybe these people can hook up with the extreme ironing people.
[...] Backcountry Access is selling a new stripped-down backpack made to do the bare minimum while skinning for turns. The Squall Backpack wouldn’t be your first choice for a Jacuzzi-building expedition, but it’s enough to get your up and down the hill with a shovel, probe, extra layer, and skins. It only weighs about 1lb 14oz and comes in this bright green color that should be easy for the search helicopter to see. By Rocky Thompson [...]
