Traveling the World with a 10-Pound Backpack

Tim Ferris, author of The 4-Hour Workweek, wrote this detailed post on how to become a fashionably light world traveler. He advocates a ‘buy it there’ philosophy for bulky or heavy items and says to never buy when you can borrow. My favorite piece of his advice is to bring a Radio Shack kitchen timer to use as an alarm clock—that way you can regulate exactly how much sleep you get and don’t have to leave your cell phone on to receive calls before you want to wake up.

You can always just put your cell phone on airplane mode while you are sleeping. Then you can’t get incoming calls.

well don’t tell Tim’s readers, since we all fly from Costa Rica to Maui on a moments notice like Timmers. His 15 mins of fame are about over! Some of his stuff applies, others are just wallpaper in motion. Look for him to run for office..
