Researches think that the magnets overload a shark’s sensory network around its brain causing it to freak out. The bad news is that the magnets only have an effective range of 10 inches, so shark-proofing your wetsuit would involve covering it with out 40 pounds of metal. Instead, researchers are trying to create technologies that will keep sharks off pedestrian beaches without tangling the sharks in nets.
