Rename Glacier National Park
By Rocky Thompson on May 16th, 2007I get it. They don’t really want to rename Glacier. They’re just doing it to raise publicity about global warming, which they say will melt the glaciers in Glacier National Park by the year 2030. I suppose it’s a fairly good idea as an attention seeking ploy, but I doubt that it’ll achieve their goal of letting the Montana congressional delegation “know that it is time they supported mandatory global warming pollution reduction polices.†I was there several years ago and didn’t see a single glacier—maybe they’re already gone. These “stop global warming†awareness campaigns have worn me out. The people who don’t believe global warming is happening aren’t going to change their minds because some people have a website trying to change Glacier’s name. It reminds me of an anti-war walk I was going to attend until I saw all the people dressed in nonsensical face paint waving signs with rhymes about George Bush’s penis. I stayed on my bike, circled the protesters’ park once and rode back home. This isn’t the way you’re going to affect change.

Yo Rock, since when have you been above George Bush penis rhymes?
For real, you didn’t see any glaciers? I was there last summer and could’ve sworn I saw a few melting away….
[...] L.L Bean, known in for its ubiquitous monogrammed school backpacks and rugged, preppy mountain look, has announced that they will create an outdoor education theme park in Maine. However, it won’t have any rides, but rather will be a park to practice outdoor pursuits. The potential plan calls it a “family-friendly outdoor adventure attraction with lodging amenities under something similar to a theme park operating model.” The park will potentially offer snowshoeing and cross-country skiing as well as orienteering and the always popular, skeet-shooting. It seems as though L.L Bean is feeling the heat from its impending neighbor, Cabela’s. Not to downplay the idea, but couldn’t you just rename a few national parks and get the same thing? [...]
