Grownup Big Wheels: The Trek 69er

trek 69er

The Trek 69er is a new bike with a 29-inch wheel up front and a traditional 26-inch wheel in back. The logic is that it tracks and rolls with the smoothness of a 29er but accelerates and climbs like a bike with 26in wheels. It also has the benefit of edgy, youthful marketing with the name “69er.” Too bad the same guys who buy football jerseys with the number 69 aren’t likely to pay $2400 for a single-speed bike. It should be interesting to see how the thing rides. It’ll either end up sitting on the sale rack at your local bike shop for three years, or there’ll be a whole new breed of hybrid bikes.

Reminds me of the old late 80s Cannondales with a 26″ front wheel and a 24″ rear.
