Long Lines at Theater for Digital Hero 3

digital hero 3 camera

The Digital Hero Camera I wrote about back in September has been upgraded by GoPro. Digital Hero 3 looks pretty cool, but I still haven’t seen the first one or the sequel, Digital Hero 2: Vendetta. Apparently #3 has a bigger memory and shoots higher quality photos. You can run 54 minutes of video—so 10 seconds of you skiing up to a cliff and 53:50 of you laying unconscious while your friends look for you. It still comes with a strap that attaches to your wrist, kayak paddle, or handlebars. The Hero 3 is selling for $140.

The 54 minutes of record time is a bit misleading. It may in fact record for 54 minutes but its not continous. So you get a bunch of 15-20 second clips that you have to piece together, Sort of lame I think.

Would be way cooler if it didn’t stop recording.

It does shoot 54 minutes continuous video!

WhiskyTango…you are talking about the original Digital Hero they made. I have this new one and it shoots for 54 minutes straight…no short clips needed. Either you don’t have this camera or you be doin’ somethin’ odd with it!

Here’s proof…the second part of this clip they shot is at least 2 minutes long (not 20 seconds) http://gopro.vsocial.com/#80312

I have a original digital also, and no i am talking about the new one, Maybe mine is defective but it certainly doesn’t stream that long.

I lost my atc-2000 a few weeks back (bummer :( ), but I see that the website says a helmet mount is coming soon. Looking forward to it!

WhiskeyTango…you should contact gopro about it. Two of us have the digital hero3 and we’re getting full length 54 minutes. You using a full length sd Card, say 2 gigs?

Well according to the instructions it says and I am quoting here “Press shutter button to stop recording or camera will automatically stop recording when 1MB of video has been saved” It seems pretty unlikely that 54 minutes of video is less than 1 MB?

This thing pales in compairson to the optio WP. It’s twice as much, but worth every penny.

to the guys who own this: what kinda of impact force can it take?

  9. ne_climber

I know the camera is 3mp, but whats the resolution on the video?

Whiskey…that’s a typo in the instructions, apparently. I emailed a couple of rad photos I got to support@goprocamera.com (hoping to get some $$ if they use them in an ad, hehe) and I asked about that 1MB video thing cause the instructions do say that. They said it is a typo. Must be because both of our cameras record for a full 54 minutes (pretty much exactly). Just try shooting video for more than 1MB and there’s your answer! :-)

ne_Climber, the resolution of the video is 640X480. I don’t know about the impact rating (if there is one) but it’s housing is polycarbonate and is built like a nalgene bottle…so seems pretty indo. I double sided it to my car bumper (not very well) and it took a digger when I hit the brakes (watched it launch). Still tickin’!
