Google Earth for Finding Trails

Whether you’re planning a hike or looking for a suitable place to grow drugs, you have to be excited about Google Earth. Google’s updated their images in the Swiss Alps and the terrain is in high resolution to 10 meters. You can plan your ski vacation a run at a time while sitting in your cube at work. Now it looks like Google is using maps gathered from plane flyovers to get even closer. It’ll be fun to surf for new bike trails in your neighborhood and look at all those topless sunbathers(ok for work).

Here’s how you get a super close-up look on Google Earth: (via Lifehacker)

  1. Select a location and switch to satellite view
  2. Zoom in as far as you can, and click “link to this page” at the top right
  3. Now replace the “z” parameter in the URL with a higher value, e.g. 20, 22, or 23, and wait. Some locations will now show more detailed imagery
