Cold Water Paddling in Valdez, Mexico

All of my friends think that one of our friends is in Mexico. It’s a bit confusing, but he actually left Mexico to take a guide job in Alaska, and he finished his training in Alaska, but he’s still in Alaska. Not that any of that matters. They think he’s back in Mexico because he sent the name of the city in Alaska where he’s staying, but it sounds like a Mexican city. That doesn’t really matter, either. He sent me an email today that started out like this:

ehy thompson.
I cant type right now because we were on the water all day in harsh conditions doing this ocean canoe trainging thing.

It ends with him expounding the virtues of a company with a hokey website called Glacier Gloves. These all-in-one ice climbing, windsurfing, and paddling gloves would be pretty easy to make fun of—I mean, why not tag “ski” on the list and claim people could use them for everything? But apparently they’ll save your life. He says they’re the only gloves on the trip that haven’t failed. You can probably use them for skiing, too.
