You made fun of your friend’s drinking gourd and mate leaves when he came back from Argentina, but now you’re walking from café to cafe with a drippy nose and beady eyes looking for your next fix. Lucky for you the hippy company Guayaki is making a mate energy drink. Guayaki claims that their energy drinks introduce mental clarity and fight bad breath while saving the world with shade grown leaves.
[...] The British company Taut claims to have the first energy drink free from preservatives, sweeteners, flavorings, and colorings. Most energy drinks use sodium to help your body hydrate, but Taut figures you get enough sodium from the potato chips you’re drinking Taut to chase down in the first place. Wasn’t organic Yerba Mate around before Taut? Well, who really cares who was first? I hope Taut comes out with an all-natural energy gel—it’d be interesting to see what that synthetic paste would look like as real food. [...]
[...] Steaz says it’s the first energy drink with respect for the community and the environment. It’s made from a blend of organic green tea, acai, organic yerba mate, and guarna. It naturally has 80mg or caffeine, which should be enough to keep you awake from the continental divide to the East Coast. You could argue that each of Steaz’s ingredients would work as an efficient and environmentally respectful energy drink, but c’mon, they’re not in a can—and that mate gourd isn’t very efficient for driving.
