Get Your Drinking Shoes On

By Rocky Thompson on August 10th, 2006

Last year Reef rocked sandal sales with the Fanning Flip-Flop and its built-in bottle opener. This year the marketing genius of Reef developed the Dram Flip-Flop which comes with a built in flask.

Reef will continue to make the wildly popular bottle opening Fanning Sandal next spring in 16 colors including two kinds of camo, and they expect to sell about half as many Drams as Fannings.

The built-in flask sounds pretty cool at first, especially if you’re one of the people that have been opening your beers with flip-flops you wear into the men’s bathroom.

Sadly, each sandal only has a 1-ounce flask and after walking on sand all day, your Jagermeister will probably be warm enough to burn a hole in your throat. Also, try to remember to wipe off any dog crap you stepped in before you start drinking out of your shoes.

[...] They may not open beer or let you clandestinely carry vodka, but the new Chaco Fusion Sandals are the only flip-flops approved by the American Podiatric Medical Association—which is where I get all my tips for footwear fashion. I have a pair of these $65 sandals and they’re remarkably supportive and comfortable for flip-flops, but I can’t figure out why they made it with a hybrid nylon/leather strap. It just looks weird, and it’s not like making the top of your shoes waterproof does any good. By Rocky Thompson [...]
